We Hosted a Documentary Screening of Wax Print Film at the African American Lewis Museum in Baltimore, Maryland

During Black History Month in 2020, we hosted an amazing event at the Lewis Museum here in Baltimore, Maryland.

“From Prints to Textiles: Exploring the Diversity of Black Art” featured works from artist and activist Elizabeth Catlett, an AFROTHREADS pop-up shop with live kente cloth weaving, and a screening of the documentary, Wax Print Film.

Many thanks to Aiwan Obinyan, the Director of Wax Print Film, who we worked with for over a year to bring the film to Baltimore. Aiwan’s film took us through the nuanced history of African Wax Prints in a way that both opened our eyes and struck our emotions. We had an incredible turn out and post-film discussion, touching on topics of colonialism, cultural preservation, and expression.

We also caught up with Aiwan in the Summer of 2020 and learned that she had signed a distribution deal! Visit www.waxprintfilm.com to learn when the film will be showing near you.
